Hey there listeners. It’s Brett Molina. Welcome back to Talking Tech. CES is coming soon. A lot of tech companies are going to start revealing some of the cool stuff they have there. Some of the stuff is technology that’ll be available at stores and online in the weeks and months to come. However, there’s a lot of concept stuff that many electronics companies show including LG which showed off a television with a twist. It’s a 55-inch curved TV, but it is also attached to its own recliner. The electronics giant showed this new product concept. It’s called the Media Chair.

Literally, as I said, it is a 55-inch curved OLED display combined with a reclining chair. It looks like a La-Z-Boy recliner, but it’s got a giant TV attached to it. So it’s your own personal kind of living room TV space. The chair has this LG feature called Cinematic Sound OLED, which LG says allows the display to vibrate to make its own sound without the use of external speakers. That part I find fascinating and I really want to experience what that’s like. Obviously, I’m not going to physically be at CES, but that is a very interesting feature and I’m curious what the sound is on those TVs if they don’t have an external speaker.

The chair also has a display pivot function accessible on the armrest. So users can actually change the orientation of your display from horizontal to vertical, which is kind of wild because maybe you’re watching something that’s more of a vertical video and you can flip the screen. Very interesting. That’s not all, though. LG also introduced this concept called Virtual Ride. It is a stationary bike with three vertical 55-inch displays that come together and form the shape of a lowercase R. So imagine you’re sitting on an exercise bike and the screen starts from the bottom of the floor and goes up in an R shape above your head. So you have all these displays.

The idea is it’s set up so that the screens are in front of and above users. So say you’re doing a bike ride and you want to pretend you’re riding through a forest or something. You’ll see trees in front of you. You’ll see them over your head. You’ll see sky over your head. Meant to really immerse you in the experience as you’re exercising. Now, of course, because these are concepts, LG didn’t say if or when they’re going to sell these products to the public. So you’re not going to see details like it’s going to come out this date, it’s going to cost this much. There’s no idea if we’ll even see these will have the light of day.

These are all just concepts, I think, to give folks a sense of what LG can do with these displays. Very fascinating stuff. I kind of wouldn’t mind the media chair, honestly. That’d be kind of fun to have my own personal recliner slash TV all in one set that I just have to myself. That sounds extremely tempting. But yeah, it’ll be interesting to see what else we get out of CES. We’ll have you covered. Be sure to read tech.USAtoday.com for the latest news out of the Consumer Electronics Show.

Listeners, let’s hear from you. Do you have any comments, questions, show ideas, any tech you want us to try to address?
