Remember the 1980s song “Total Eclipse of the Heart?” How about a total eclipse of the sun? Arkansas parts of Texas and Texarkana are in for a real historic solar treat in 2024.

It doesn’t seem like it’s been almost 5 years since our last solar eclipse but during that time Arkansas was not able to experience a total eclipse of the sun, in fact, most of us in this region only saw about a 60 percent solar eclipse. But still, it was amazing no matter where you were standing to witness this natural phenomenon.

Brace yourself, on April 8, 2024, Most of Arkansas should be able to see a total eclipse depending on weather conditions, fingers crossed. According to current projections, the path of totality is expected to cross through Texas, including the Dallas Metroplex, Arkansas, Missouri, and other parts of the U.S.

Cities in Arkansas near Texarkana will include Hot Springs, Little Rock Conway, and, Mena. Other towns include Jonesboro, Booneville, Paris, Ozark, and Paragould, while Fort Smith will see a 99 percent total solar eclipse. People living in Northwest Arkansas will get around 96 percent.

At this time, it’s uncertain how much eclipse that Texarkana will see but we do fall its path barely, so I think most likely it will be a lot better than the last Great North Ameican Eclipse we all saw in August of 2017. The duration of this eclipse will last around 4 minutes and 27 seconds, almost double the last solar eclipse.

According to this map from a recent story on THV11 in Little Rock, Texarkana looks to be on the path of a total solar eclipse.

The eclipse will begin in Texas at 1:27 PM CDT and come to an end at 3:35 PM EDT in Maine.

If you missed the last solar eclipse don’t miss this one even if you have to travel a few miles to get the full effect or not. don’t forget your special eclipse glasses for viewing the eclipse safely.
