The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be awarded about $241.6 million to Texas’ 193 airports through the Bipartisian Infrastructure Law.
Throughout the country, a total of $2.89 billion will be given to airports for the 2022 fiscal year. Funding can be used for runways, taxiways, safety and sustainability projects and more. This is the first in five annual rounds of funding that Texas airports will receive.
The Hale County Airport in Plainview will receive $159,000, the same amount that will be awarded to the Floydada Municipal Airport. The Muleshoe Municipal Airport and Tulia/Swisher County Municipal Airport will each receive $110,000.
The Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport will receive $3,918,812 in funds while the Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport will receive $2,858,644.
Airports can submit projects they wish to use the funds on for review by the FAA in the coming weeks.
Financing for the airports comes from the Airport Infrastructure Grant program, which is one of three new aviation programs created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
