LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Police made three arrests, two related to an overnight fatal shooting, after a high-speed chase on the Marsha Sharp freeway. Another arrest in connection to the shooting was made Friday morning.
Late Thursday night, officers responded to the Park Meadow Villa Apartments, located at 2502 Weber Dr., for a shots fired call. Upon arrival, officers found 18-year-old Zequael Diaz-Martinez in a vehicle with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased on scene.
Police say through the course of the investigation, it was determined that Diaz-Martinez and a 15-year-old male met for the illegal sale of firearms. After they met, an argument ensued, and Diaz-Martinez was shot.
The 15-year-old male was arrested and charged Friday morning with murder and possession of a stolen firearm, and was transported and booked into the Lubbock County Juvenile Justice Center.
Officers located a vehicle related to additional suspects in the 3100 block of Bates Street, just before four o’clock, Friday afternoon. Initial reports show they reached speeds of more than a hundred miles an hour.
Officers also reported they saw at least two guns get thrown out of the vehicle. Higher-ups authorized a forcible stop, so officers used a low-speed controlled collision to stop the vehicle near Iola avenue. No injuries were reported.
A 16-year-old male and a 15-year-old male were both arrested for murder. In addition, the driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old Roderick Johnson, was arrested for evading in a motor vehicle.
Lubbock Police are still investigating.
